Supercharging Rural Businesses

For Airtel, the BuffaloGrid Hub is a powerful tool to attract in-store visitors, build brand loyalty and communicate with customers. But the impact on storekeepers and their community can often be even greater.

Dinesh Agrawal lives in a village in Hathras and manages an Airtel Exclusive Outlet. Through our work with the MNO we provided him with a BuffaloGrid Hub giving customers free solar powered phone charging.

One month later and his village has grown to love the Hub. He tells us people “see it as a luxury which they don’t have to pay for”. Other shops in the area charge money for phone charging so he has started to win their business.

Even for the 1 in 10 villagers in Northern India who have electricity to charge phones at home, the personal power problem is real when they are out of the house during the day. Talking about BuffaloGrid and Airtel’s work, Dinesh tells us “people see this as a service towards the community” and it benefits him too, saying “I get a lot of new customers for my other services through BuffaloGrid.”
